Buzios Brazil - December 2003

The first night, we stayed in a hotel called Casa Branca (White House), and the views from our veranda were spectacular.
Casa Branca is less than a 5 minute walk to the center of Buzios where there are many restaurants and shops.
We were only able to stay at Casa Branca one evening, so we moved down the street to Elcazar. In fact, it was even nicer than Casa Branca.
We stayed at Elcazar for 9 nights, and about 1/2 that time, we were the only guests at the hotel. They treated us like kings and queens.
Buzios has so many picturesque places. Outside of the fisherman's market, they constructed a statue in the middle of the water that almost looks lifelike.
Buzios is perhaps most famous because Bridgette Bardot proclaimed it to be the most beautiful place in the world. This statue was erected in her honor.
We took a boat ride around Buzios one afternoon. This is a view of our hotel, Elcazar, from the boat.
Ana Bella gets sea sick very easily. She took a dramamine, but still got queasy. In this picture, she is hanging in there best she can.
One minus about Buzios is the beaches are not as nice as Rio. We decided to drive about 1/2 an hour to Cabo Frio. They are thought to be some of the nicest and cleanest beaches in all of Brazil.
We were in Cabo Frio in December which is the very beginning of tourist season, but as you can see, the beaches were close to deserted.
The highlight of our trip was Fred, which was the owner's dog. Fred behaved like a human being, and could sit in a chair while we ate several meals at the hotel.
Fred was one of the ugliest dogs I have ever seen, but somehow Ana Bella fell in love with him. We actually conspired to steal Fred, but instead we just snapped a few photos and said goodbye after a wonderful vacation.
