    I Cant’ Stand the Heat

Wow, it’s getting hot in Myrtle Beach now. The tourists start to meander into town. The place is packed. But it’s not the heat, it’s the humidity. Well, so they say. So what do I do? Hit the road of course. I made it to California, for some more golf, catching up with some of my old Western Digital friends, and I also drove up to Los Angeles for a party celebrating my grandmothers’s 96th birthday. Yes, you read that right! Later on, back to Myrtle Beach for more heat, but then to Michigan to visit Rick Snyder and my friends at Avalon Investments. We have some good things cooking, so stay tuned. Then to Minneapolis to visit Ron Engleken, an old buddy that works at Intel.

After that I went to Sioux City, but that was technically in July, so I’ll save those photos for next month. Bye. Rob

May is Bike Month in Myrtle Beach

Time is count down in Myrtle Beach in May by the number of bikers that come to town this month. The constant rumble of Harleys could be heard at all hours from my house. During the peak of biker’s weekend, my volleyball captain, Jill Freerks and her friend, Jill, came down for a visit. The weather was great, and Bachman Turner Overdrive came to town to entertain us and the bikers. It was great.

The only travel for the month was a quick sojourn to South Dakota for Ted’s annual golf retreat in Okoboji. It was great to see so many of my old friends again, and we came in second in the golf tournament. We had a great team with Dave Russell, Jerry Taylor, and Doug Lacey. My golf game continues to improve but slowly and inconsistently. Persistence is key.

    Golf Tourament in Myrtle Beach

I have to admit that April was a great month for me. After returning Michigan, I, by and large, just stayed in Myrtle Beach. I love it down here. I’ve been taking golf lessons three times a week, hitting golf balls every day, and playing 18 about twice a week. I finally feel like my golf game is improving, and the weather has been splendid.

During April, seven Gateway guys came down for a golf weekend. We played 72 holes in 2.5 days. Combined with all the drinking, and I was pooped after they left. Also, my buddy, Steve Johns, who also recently left Gateway, came down for a quick visit.

Perhaps the biggest news of all is that after considerable wrangling, I’ve decided to stay in Myrtle Beach, and not move to California. Believe me, it was a tough decision, but I am happy with it. My only travel this month was to California to tell everyone that I won’t be moving there. That was a tough trip.

    On The Move

Well, what did I do this month? Quite a bit actually. Spent a little more time in Myrtle Beach and I hit the road again. First, I went back to Irvine to meet with quite a few people on various business ventures, and of course, my new love of my life, my new company. I ran down to Gateway in San Diego, to discuss the new company with Ted and a few other folks down there. Next, I hit Los Angeles, where the University of Southern California, had just opened a new Eastern Asian Studies library, where my grandfather had contributed thousands of books, and quite a few works of art. My grandmother was quite pleased to talk to all the press about this. My brother, Dave, and his family, also were visiting LA that weekend. After that, to Las Vegas, where I won another $6000. My luck is just amazing lately! Lastly, I went to Michigan to visit Rick Snyder, ex president of Gateway, and also my former boss. He is running a technology venture capital firm in Ann Arbor. Pretty cool stuff.

I’ve also updated quite a few of the sections this month. The books section has been updated with my readings for the month of March. Also, the links section has been updated with some new places that I frequent. And lastly, I’ve been experimenting with sound, so a couple of my new songs that I’ve written can be seen and heard here.

    All Over The Place

I can’t tell you how many people have told me that I would be bored once I retired. Well… it hasn’t happenned yet!I went back to Sioux City for a few days to sell my house, and then on to California. First, I stopped off to spend a few days with my 95 year old grandmother. She’s a paragon of energy and health. We all could learn something from her. I also saw my father’s sister, Shirley. After that, I hopped on a Southwest flight to Las Vegas, where I saw the most awesome fight, Delahoya vs Quarte. By the time I left, I also had one $4500 on the blackjack tables, and the hotel comp’d my room and my meals!

After that, I popped in San Diego for another meeting with Ted to propose an idea for a new type of company. I think he liked it. Then, I ran into Tommy’s parents vacationing in Del Mar. I hung out in Irvine for a few days, mostly visiting with old friends. And back to Sioux City to wrap up personal effects. Then, good ole RJ came down to Myrtle Beach for a week. We played golf every day, and RJ played 36 on most days. We also wrote a very special song! Maybe, RJ will let me put it up on my home page one day. It’s kind of an Aerosmith style song. Anyways, pretty busy month, I would say.
