National Geographic Photos

I received this amazing set of photos via email last week. When I get these “chain” mails, I try to put them on my web site for the really good ones. The photography is just simply amazing. I imagine a photographer that hasn’t eaten for days just waiting in the wild to take the perfect photo. Enjoy. There are thirty different photos but it goes so fast because the photography is so well done. More »

Mangaratiba, Brazil – A Beautiful Place

Solange’s mother came to visit us and we decided to take a quick weekend vacation. Solange searched the map and found Mangaratiba. It is about 70 miles from Rio de Janeiro, but given the condition of the roads and the traffic, it takes between 2-3 hours to drive there. All that said, it was worth it. I have been all over the world, and I would put Mangaratiba up there with Yosemite National Park as one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited in my life. More »

High School Yearbook Pictures

I found a couple of very cool pictures in FaceBook when I was cruising around. One of my old high school friends posted photos from our graduating class yearbook of 1977. The first photo is our Math Team. Believe it or not, we were a team of 5 and we would travel to other schools each week and compete in little mini math tournaments. They would hand out math questions, and we would have 5 minutes to answer the question. We were the best team in the county! More »

Playground in Recreio

Last Sunday, Solange, Teddy, Jesse and I made the drive to Recreio to visit our friends Katia and Jason Elliott. Recreio is night and day different than the hustle and bustle of Rio and Lagoa. We went to a churrascaria close to their house that also had a small playground for children. The food was great and the kids had a great time playing together. I took a ton of photos with my new camera, mainly of the kids. More »

Transparent Butterflies

It comes from Central America and is found from Mexico to Panama. It is quite common in its zone, but it not easy to find because of its transparent wings, which is a natural camouflage mechanism.

A butterfly with transparent wings is rare and beautiful. As delicate as finely blown glass, the presence of this rare tropical gem is used by rain forest ecologists as an indication of high habitat quality and its demise alerts them of ecological change. Rivaling the refined beauty of a stained glass window, the translucent wings of the Glasswing butterfly shimmer in the sunlight like polished panes of turquoise, orange, green, and red. All things beautiful do not have to be full of color to be noticed: in life that which is unnoticed has the most power. More »

Jesse Photo Shoot

This was a totally impromptu photo session. Solange’s sister, Sandra, came running into the room with a large photography light. Next she started clicking pictures like mad. My and Solange’s hair are both a total mess! We had no idea what we were doing, but we just went with it.

We had a lot of fun, and then I messed around with Paint.net to see how much I could change the feel of the photos. Some of the colors turned out a little different because of the light, and then I downloaded some filters to sharpen and soften the photos for different effects. If you have not tried out Paint.net it is free and it is awesome.

Battling the Tree

My apartment is on the fourth floor of a ten story building. When I first purchased my apartment in 2003, a good friend of mine Jamie from Philadelphia made a very prescient comment. As we were looking out over the beautiful views from my apartment, he said “Wonder what you’ll do when those trees grow a little?” More »

Teddy’s Photo Shoot

Solange has been dying to have a professional photo shoot with props and lighting. So one day, she snuck out when I was on a conference call and came back with the photos from the shoot. They really turned out great. Of course, the photo studio does not give you digitals but prints. So I had to scan them in, and then make this slide show. I really have to wonder when these photographers will enter the digital age! Hey that’s it! I’m going to open up a photo studio and only use digital technology. Oh well. that’s for another day. Enjoy Teddy’s photo shoot.

PC Pitstop goes to Boston

Since PC Pitstop is a virtual company, twice a year everyone gathers for the company meeting held in a difference locale. This fall we had the company meeting in Boston. We had three days of meetings and the team outing was a Red Sox game right before the playoffs began. The weather was close to perfect although it showed a little toward the end of the game. The photos were taken by Sheila and Sandra. Sheila wrote all of the captions and then I put it all into LyteBox. Cool. More »

3 Months of Teddy

After 3 months of staying at our house in Myrtle Beach, I am happy to report that Teddy has not yet worn out his welcome. Solange has taken tons of photos of Teddy, and I tried to sort out the best of the best. I’ve also tried to add some new effects using LyteBox to make a more entertaining slide show. More »
